Since Lynn seems hellbent on turning Mike's family into a retread of John and Elly, only with a bit of a gender switch, you can readily guess that certain patterns will repeat themselves. Let's try to imagine what they'll be doing in thirteen years time. I'll start my look at the future by ballparking how Meredith is getting on since she'd be the centrepoint of the strip if Lynn had handed it off to her staff five years ago. She'd be going through the drama of her high-school graduation at that point and deciding what college to go to. One of the factors affecting her decision would be the opinion of a male contemporary. I can confidently predict that he'd be
(a) somebody she met in grade school
and
(b) a knuckle-dragging goofola.
I'd also wager that Dee packed her off to Grandma Mira's over the summer break once or twice just to 'adjust' her 'attitude', especially since she also balks at baby-sitting little Mister 'Oops' who came into the picture roughly around 2015.
It's sort of disheartening to realize that the past is the future for these people but when you consider they don't learn from their mistakes (or think of them that way), it's inevitable.
