Here's the really sad thing....

It's been pointed out recently that Liz doesn't seem to be capable of real love. She goes through all the motions of being in love with someone but, for some sad reason, is too stunted emotionally to really love anyone but herself back. It's not just her, though. None of the Pattersons seem to have it in them to love someone. Mike's clear loathing for his children is the most obvious example. You can see that in the fullness of time, his obvious antipathy towards his children will have turned them into another couple of emotional cripples named Patterson. John and Elly, of course, are mostly to blame for this. John was too fucking important to spend time with his kids unless it's fun and Elly, too busy acting pointlessly upset to be a good mother. As much as I loathe Mike now, my real disgust is directed towards Elizabeth who's gonna become asshole absentee step-mom to a victim of neglect on top of shortchanging the fruit of her toxic loins.
