As howtheduck pointed out recently, Lynn needs to have April turn Becky to the side of niceness in an awful hurry and she's gonna use the telethon to do it. Now, it seems to me the reason Becky volunteered her time is the same reason of lot of celebrities join worthy causes: the Impostor syndrome. Some part of our Miss Maguire is convinced that she's a fraud, you see. By giving of her time and effort, she silences the voice in her head that says she's deceiving the masses into thinking she's worth their respect. For some unguessable reason, her drummer is unable to attend her attempt to prove to herself she's not a glorified fake so she turns to the comforting figure of Gerald who reminds her of time time she felt comfortable on stage. Unlike her, though, he's just in it for the money and might blurt out his negative opinion of the beneficiaries of the event thereby REALLY making her feel bad about herself. This, of course, would lead to her tear-stained flight from the stage and April's ham-fisted attempt at actually consoling her. This makes a lot of sense, since a Patterson can only forgive someone if they feel superior to their supplicant. Plus also, their mutual rehection of the dumb bastard would appeal to all the Yahoovians who think they're too young to think about boys.
