John versus Anthony: a key difference.....
Dec. 7th, 2007 07:54 amWe've all noticed over the years how similar John and Anthony in temperment and behavior. Both are rather bland-looking figures, who live low-key, non-descript lives. Both men manipulate others to get what they want. Both men are insensitive to the needs of others. There is, however, a difference between the two of them: John's desires are far easier to satiate than Anthony's. John may be a jerk but he does not have the constant hunger for approval and validation that the younger man has. This is because his desires are simple: all he wants to to do is play with his toys in peace. He has to bribe his wife to do it but she seems to be playing along so it's not that big a deal to him. Anthony isn't nearly as secure as John in that he constantly needs to feel as if he is in charge of his own life. Thus, he plots and schemes to win the approval of the Pattersons. Thus, he destroys his integrity for nothing worth having.
