Lynnglish 101.
May. 29th, 2009 03:17 amAs you know we've had a lot of fun over the years assigning what tvtropes.org calls 'detractor nicknames' to various characters and phenomena in the strip. Examples are the words 'Settlepocalypse', 'Kool-Aid Nation', 'Pattersnarfing' and the various unflattering modifications of Anthony's name. I'm reminding you of that because aprilp_katje came up a new nickname for an old 'friend': Lynnglish. It's a jesting term for an unfunny thing: Lynn's tin ear for language. We've spent too much of our lives looking at unclear syntax, confusing and poorly-punctuated dialogue and questionable spelling and it seems odd that we didn't have a name for the result of Lynn's functional illiteracy. Lynnglish is the perfect word for the language used for someone with a poor command of English who at the same time wants to tell us all how to speak.
