Crass consciousness

As you know, Elly is one of the most vulgar, low-class pieces of trailer trash to have ever drawn breath. Not only would it be a cruel insult to burlap sacks to compare them to her wardrobe, her manners are those of a cruel, clannish, ignorant little child whose opinions were formed somewhere in the 1750's. This is what the people who shun her and tell their children they cannot play with her children lest they be exposed to her sick values mean when they call her the dentist's crazy wife. That being said, it's also true that Elly has such a total lack of self-awareness that she thinks that she's too important a person to shop at consignment stores or Zellers; she needs must outfit the offsprings from a upscale store so as to consume conspicuously. Not for her the realization that she reveals herself as the barbarian she is by doing so; anyone with an understanding of history will tell you that the more primitive the person, the greater the need to be gaudy so as to impress one's fellow club-swinging brutes. The only victims here are the slightly-more civilized John who ends up having to pay her credit card debts and the children who grow up not knowing how to spend money wisely.
