The Panic Principle.....

As we saw on the strip that appeared on 2 October 2009, Elly doesn't seem to be sufficiently organized to fill up her gas tank before going grocery shopping so she can avoid running on fumes; heck, she doesn't even carry a wallet/billfold in her purse like most women do. What she does do is rummage around in the bottom of her purse like a child for small change and make a fool of herself. This is, of course, because she seems to be addicted to being in a state of panic. Being in a panic is why she fears that hanging around her kids will make her brain turn to goo, it's why she shaves sheets and it's why she can't apply herself to anything. What's more, she thinks that it's a good and noble thing that she wastes her life being a gigantic white knuckle; I remember one strip wherein April had only packed what she needed for a trip and Elly shoved a whole bunch of crap in her suitcase and told her that she didn't understand why she didn't panic. I'd like to believe that Lynn was shaking her head and smiling indulgently at Elly's foibles but I know better; she was condemning April for calming the Hell down and thinking things through.
