The similarities between Cathy Guisewite and Lynn Johnston don't end with their being spokespersons for a demographic group that didn't originally have a voice or their strips being pretty much commissioned to provide it. It's a fairly-well known fact that both women were sort of mentored by Charles Schulz. The difference between the two women seems to me to be that Guisewite is less inclined to capitalize on that fact than Lynn is. This came into play when the recent biography came out; while Johnston couldn't wait to give the author whatever odd things he wanted, Guisewite kept her participation to a minimum. This makes me feel more disposed to cut her some slack; I like people who know when to not run their mouths in order to hear themselves speak. I also like it when someone keeps personal conversations to his or herself; Guisewite clearly seems to believe whatever Schulz told her is between the two of them and is best not divulged. Also, from what little she does share with the boys in the press corps, she seems to be the same sort of mildly annoying company her noseless avatar is. I could imagine myself tolerating her presence more than I could Lynn's.
