Kool-Aid Nation: The Error in the system.
Jul. 12th, 2010 12:32 amSo far, I’ve probably given you the impression that Johnston and her kind are the only ones keeping dinosaur strips that have lost their vitality and merit on the page and repelling new readers who might otherwise sustain and grow a new generation of readers. This, of course, is a silly thing for me to have said; it is necessary to talk about the other factor that keeps the Foobs foobing, Jerkemy being an idiot and so on and so forth: the vocal audience that the creators have attracted over the years. The reason that they keep on keeping their trite, bland boring strips on the page while rejecting the fresh and new is that they fear and hate the idea of change; the disappearance of the Pattersons, the De Groots, Garfield and all the other bores and idiots who have nothing left to say reminds them of something they don’t want to have to face: their own inevitable demises. They’d rather the medium vanish than go on its own way without them.
