Nov. 20th, 2013 01:29 amBefore I get to the point I'd like to make about how things may not be quite what they seem, I'd like to remind you of what we were talking about this time last month. As we all know, Michael and his friends wanted to dress up as what goofy little children think punk rockers look like. A sane, objective observer would look at the group of them in costume and assume the following:
"Hmmmm. A bunch of suburbanites dressing up as ludicrous travesties of a trend that's past its sell-by date. Heh. Nothing to worry about here; just goofy kids being goofy kids. Anyone who'd think that they're rage-fueled anarchists trying to overthrow a society they've given up on is as stupid as that screaming idiot bitch that jackass dentist married."
while Elly will go to her grave thinking:
"WAAAAHHHHH!!!!! MICHAEL WANTED TO REJECT THE COSTUME I MADE OUT OF LOVE BECAUSE HE WANTED TO TURN HIS BACK ON ALL THAT'S GOOD BECAUSE OF THE WAR!!!!!! WHY DOES NO ONE WANT ME TO SHARE MY LOVE?!?!?!"
Also, we must contend with the fact that John has the inconvenient habit of humiliating her by telling her to get her facts straight before she starts running her fool mouth. This means that (as I said once long ago) that Elly really doesn't actually know what's going on around her.
Another thing (which is the thing I wanted to talk about) is that despite her constant complaints about how she'd love to live on her own and not have to answer to anyone, she doesn't seem to be able to actually have the life skills required to live independently. First off, the same woman who rails away about thrift spends money in an irresponsible and silly manner and, since math bores her, has to rely on someone else to keep track of it.
Add in her poor people skills, her inability to actually know what's happening around her, her stubborn refusal to learn things because of a fear of being thought of as ignorant and her inflated opinion of her own excellence and you're looking at someone who has to spend her life as the client of a group of able people keeping her from dying the gruesome death that she would inevitably die were she to end up on her own. This, as I'll demonstrate tomorrow, puts the Housening and Settlepocalypse in a whole new light.
