Of course, expecting Elly to keep track of where Farley is is a bit of a stretch. After all, most of why she forgot to lock the gate properly is that she was mad at Mike for somehow magically embarrassing her for messing around with the leftovers of the New Years' party. Did it matter that most of why all that crap was there was owing to her sheer negligent stupidity? Not as such, no. In her mind, it wasn't a stupid little boy doing something dumb because a lazy clod had left the place a mess. In her mind, it was revenge for not being allowed to collect blackmail material on her and her friends.
