Elly versus her kids' music.

We're about to get another reminder that Elly regards the natural process of identifying so strongly with the music of her early years that no matter what style of music her children grow to like, it's discordant noise leading them to perdition as an awful shock and rude surprise owing to her refusal to admit that she's simply an unreasonable facsimile of the mother she made a point of not getting along with.

What this means is that we're looking at yet another battleground in the endless, pointless and destructive war she's declared on her children because she lets herself get driven crazy by them so that she doesn't have to admit to how similar she is to Marian. She doesn't want to know that she can't like her kids' music because it's not hers. She doesn't want to admit that times change and she can't deal with it either. She doesn't want to admit that she's also making a point of not getting along with the kids because she doesn't want to admit that she's a bellicose imbecile who sees her life as an endless battle against a world of combatants out to ruin her because it gives meaning to her life that being an ordinary woman who has a low tolerance for being disagreed with doesn't. This is also why she picks fights about what they wear that she doesn't need to get into.
