As you all probably know, we're about three months away from another battle in Elly's on-going war against understanding how her children see her when Liz reminds us that she's not a very bright or attentive child and somehow, this lack of foresight means that she and Mike are somehow plotting to steal Elly's life away from her by forcing her to watch over every thing they do instead of, say, sitting for hours on end in a Tim Hortons with Connie moaning about how children take all your time away from you. I am, of course, talking about Liz accidentally breaking the bag of milk she was supposed to carry because she's too blasted stupid to pay attention to what she's doing.
When she realizes too late that Mommy will start in howling and screaming about what a cruel, selfish and heartless liar she is telling her the horrible and evil lie that she didn't intend to fuck up, Liz makes up a story to keep Elly from baying at the moon about how her children are monsters who want to enslave her because she remembers something Elly doesn't want to. She remembers that Elly regards forgiving people as a sign of weakness. Elly doesn't like to remember that she's a stubborn moron who would rather parade around screaming about justice than actually being in the right. This is why Elly is caught flat-footed by Liz accidentally asking if she has to go away forever now because Elly doesn't want people who make her confront the terrible idea that children can and do blunder into trouble without it being part of some bullshit conspiracy a puny brain cooks up so she can feel important. Later on, her actually sticking to a punishment makes her sad because she has to look in the mirror and see the reproving idiot killjoy she actually is.
