Of course, there's another reason that the Pattersons hate competition of any sort and it's connected to John and Elly's non-stop bleating about how everything should be just for fun. The reason that they were enabling April's idiotic delusion that Becky wanted to use her star power to crush her and her friends under her feet and laugh at their pathetic writhing is that Pattersons as a whole hate to lose because they think that everyone else is as graceless as they are.
You see, if no one is keeping score or keeping track of who's better than the rest, no Patterson has to endure the horrible, cruel and unfair experience of realizing that no, he or she shouldn't be doing something or be in charge of something because he or she sucks at doing something. Also, if excellence were to be declared irrelevant, the Patterson in question would not have to endure the infinite humiliation of taking second place to someone else.
That would be terrible because they, as I said, assume that everyone else in the world wants to run things like a scab foreman just because they themselves are petty tyrants. Simply put, we have to endure loser culture because our heroes are vain also-rans with an allergy to truth.
